HEGER DRY DOCK, Inc. is a company specializing in the design, inspection and certification of floating drydocks, graving drydocks and launchways and consultation on all drydock & launchway related projects.

 

HEGER DRY DOCK was formed in January 1998 by Robert E. Heger, P.E and Mark A. Procter, P.E. Prior to forming HEGER DRY DOCK, both Mr. Heger and Mr. Procter have worked in the dry docking industry from 1978 and 1979 respectively. The goal of the company is to provide complete engineering services to the shipbuilding & ship repair industries, with regards to dry docks and launchways.


Services offered:

  • DESIGN: Complete design drawings and specifications for floating docks, basin docks, launchways and transfer systems. All drawings are produced in AutoCAD 2004 format.
  • DOCK SELECTION: Assistance with selecting the best type and size of dock to fit a particular site and vessel class.
  • INSPECTION: Inspections can be conducted according to the U.S. Navy MIL-STD-1625(C)SH for inclusion in the U.S. Navy Facility Certification Report or according to the US Coast Guard MLCA STD SPEC 9971_STD (Atlantic Coast); MLCPAC STANDARD SPEC 997(Pacific Coast). Mr. Heger and Mr. Procter have conducted over 300 inspections of marine railways, floating docks, basin docks and launchways. This experience provides a tremendous advantage when assessing the condition of existing structures. Mr. Heger is also experienced in underwater inspections of various types of dry docks, piers and wharves. 
  • UNDERWATER INSPECTION: Mr. Heger is a trained diver. He has experience in the underwater inspection of piers, wharves, bulkheads, launchways and dry docks.
  • CERTIFICATION: We provide certification of the safe lift capacity for any floating or basin drydock facility.
  • DOCKING CALCULATIONS: Vessel stability calculations, block loading calculations, hurricane & earthquake overturning calculations, pumping plans, etc. can be prepared. All calculations are in suitable form for submission to the U.S. Navy or other certifying agencies.
  • LAUNCHING CALCULATIONS: Vessel drafts, launchway loadings, poppet loads, etc. can be prepared for vessel launch situations.
  • US NAVY MIL-STD 1625C FACILITY CERTIFICATION REPORT: Assistance with the preparation of the Facility Certification Report required by the U.S. Navy under MIL-STD 1625(C)SH.
  • COMPUTER PROGRAMS: We use GHS software from Creative Systems to analyze the floating characteristics of floating dry docks and vessels. We can prepare computer software spreadsheets to calculate ship/dock stability, block loading, hurricane & earthquake overturning, pumping plans, etc., which run under MS Excel, to suit a particular facility.
