Heger Dry Dock has participated in the design of numerous floating dry docks, vessel transfer systems and launching methods. We are also regularly asked to prepare blocking plans, pumping plans and or develop procedures for drydocking difficult or unusual vessels.

Replacement Caisson Gate for Existing
Graving Dock
In 2009, HEGER developed design parameters and provided complete design drawings and specifications for a replacement caisson gate for Dry Dock No. 2 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The dock is used for docking nuclear powered submarines. The gate sill was lowered by 2 feet and height of gate increased to allow for docking of deeper draft vessels.
We teamed with Bruce S. Rosenblatt & Associates, LLC who provided mechanical and electrical design. The new gate was delivered to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in October of 2010 and is awaiting completion of the sill for installation and testing.
